SMITHFIELD, RI – Bryant Zhuhai held its annual Convocation ceremony at the Beijing Institute of Technology, Zhuhai (BITZH) campus on November 10. Bryant University President Ronald K. Machtley, Vice President for International Affairs Hong Yang, Ph.D., and Bryant Zhuhai Dean Daniel Borgia, Ph.D., led the ceremony welcoming 128 members of the class of 2023 to Bryant’s community of scholars.

In his remarks, President Machtley encouraged students to take advantage of the unique East-West education to prepare for the future in an age of intense global competition. “It’s great to have ideas; but to make ideas come true, students need to work hard, and cooperate with others,” he said.

Dr. Yang, Bryant’s Charles J. Smiley Chair and Professor of Science and Technology, shared his cross-cultural experiences and encouraged students to challenge themselves to learn a new language and culture at Bryant Zhuhai.

The Class of 2023 earned admission to Bryant Zhuhai with the highest college exam grades since the program began, and were selected from among the top 20 percent of all Chinese students taking the Chinese college entrance exam (Gaokao).

Bryant Zhuhai welcomed its first entering class of Chinese students in September 2015. The program is a joint collaboration between Beijing Institute of Technology, Zhuhai (BITZH) and Bryant University. The academic program for American and Chinese students is taught in English and mirrors Bryant's nationally recognized curriculum, rigor, and quality of faculty. Graduates are prepared with the global perspective that is essential for success in today's international business environment. Students can attend summer classes at Bryant’s Smithfield campus and may also apply to transfer to Bryant in their junior year.

Unconditional accreditation from China’s Ministry of Education

In October, Bryant Zhuhai received unconditional approval from China’s Ministry of Education (MOE), the Chinese education accrediting body. This approval enables Bryant Zhuhai to add majors beyond the current accounting major, widen its geographical recruitment footprint, and grow its student body.

The accreditation team praised Bryant Zhuhai’s rigorous academic programs, dedicated faculty, and the excellent outcome of the inaugural graduating class. This milestone accreditation means that Bryant Zhuhai has met all requirements for high-quality education resources, maintaining professional academic competence, and producing outstanding graduates through excellent programs and teaching quality. It demonstrates the success of Bryant Zhuhai’s innovative development model and opens the door for further expansion of programs and enrollment.
