For the third consecutive year, Bryant students participated in the "I Stand With Immigrants" campaign, a nationwide effort to protect the rights of immigrants and ensure fair treatment and due process for all.

On Oct. 24, a panel of international and multicultural Bryant students shared their experiences with immigration, labels and stereotypes about immigrants, and their thoughts on these issues on Bryant's campus.

“Bryant has a growing community of minority and international students," said Manuela Duque ’19, who emigrated from Colombia to the United States in high school. "It’s important for everyone to understand what it’s like to be an immigrant on the Bryant campus.”

“Bryant has a growing community of minority and international students. It’s important for everyone to understand what it’s like to be an immigrant on the Bryant campus.”

“This event reflects so much of what I would like people to know about me,” said Duque ’19. “It teaches people a different way of seeing things. It teaches people what it's like to have a different culture.”

Ramon Luis Fille ’22, who emigrated from the Philippines nearly a decade ago, praised Bryant’s 4MILE program for easing his transition to college. 4MILE (Multicultural and Leadership Experience) is a cultural and leadership program uniquely designed for first-year international and domestic multicultural students to acclimate to campus.

“It’s such a great program,” Fille said. “That’s where I met most of my friends. It allowed me to get to know people and start to make connections, especially with my professors and the people who work here.”

Modern Language Senior Lecturer Patricia Gomez said events such as the "I Stand With Immigrants" panel encourage the Bryant community to “embrace cultures, languages, and diversity.”

“As a language professor these are focal points that I teach and advocate for in my classroom daily,” Gomez said. “Having the opportunity to hear a panel of our own Bryant immigrants or first-generation students share their stories and experiences is a powerful voice that we can all learn from."
