Judy Barrett Litoff, Ph.D., Professor of History and Social Sciences, received the 2018 Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, one of the highest distinctions awarded by Marquis Who’s Whoa comprehensive directory of biographies of prominent Americans. The honor “is reserved for biographees who have demonstrated leadership, excellence and longevity within their respective industries and professions,” according to the organization.

Litoff, a dedicated member of the Bryant faculty for 43 years, is a leading expert on the history of American women and World War II. Listed among her publications are a number of books based on an archive she assembled of 30,000 wartime letters written by civilian and military women during WWII. The letters and her publications provide evidence of the important ways women actively participated in the war effort and their growing sense of self and place in the world—previously unexplored, but fundamental, aspects of the war.

Her book Bryant College Goes to War, published by the University in print and recently online, is based on 1,300 letters written by Bryant men and women during WWII to the Bryant Service Club in thanks for their care packages.
