SMITHFIELD, RI – The eighth annual Research and Engagement Day 2019 will be held on Wednesday, April 17 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Known as RED19, the day-long symposium brings together faculty, students, and staff to showcase their research, creativity, and innovative academic accomplishments within the Bryant community.

A signature academic event, RED19 is a dynamic display of how the Bryant experience creates innovative leaders and problem solvers. The University allows students the opportunity to become crucial members of faculty research teams or even conduct their own research.

The slate for this year’s event includes more than 75 sessions and involves more than 500 students and 70 faculty and staff through roundtable discussions and best practices sessions, as well as paper and poster presentations.
RED19 highlights include:
James (Jimi) Shanahan, Ph.D., John ‘01H and Jeanne Rowe Professor of Data Science, presents “The State of Data Science in Academia.” Session D12, beginning at 1:15 p.m. in the Quinlan/Brown Academic Innovation Center Forum.
Junior Honors Capstone Student Pitches, where students present their thesis ideas in a 10-minute verbal presentation and receive feedback from Faculty. Sessions A, B, C, Lunch, and Session D in Rooms 267 and 269 in the Unistructure.
Bryant Literary Review 20th Anniversary Reading, “Showcase of Creative Expression,” provides attendees with an opportunity to listen to selections from the 20th anniversary issue bringing new poetry and fiction to life. Session D22, beginning at 1:15 p.m. in the Interfaith Center.
“Scholarship, Research, and Creativity,” a keynote panel of distinguished Bryant faculty moderated by Associate Provost Carol DeMoranville, Ph.D.,at 2:45 p.m. in Janikies Theatre, featuring:
- Jeffrey Cabusao, Ph.D., Associate Professor of English and Cultural Studies, whose research interests include Literary and Cultural Theory, U.S. Ethnic Studies
- Kirsten Hokeness, Ph.D., Professor of Science and Technology , whose research interests includes Human Health and Disease
- Crystal Jiang, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Management, whose research interests include Corporate Entrepreneurship of Emerging Economy Firms
- Jack Trifts, Ph.D., Professor of Finance, whose research interests include Mutual Fund Management
To ensure that all members of the Bryant community may participate and attend sessions that are of interest, all undergraduate and graduate classes are cancelled until 4 p.m.
