Spring has arrived and it’s time to lace up your running shoes and join us for the #WeAreBryant Virtual 5K, a run/walk event for everyone in the Bryant community. Between Saturday, May 16 and Monday, June 1, participants of all fitness levels can run or walk at their own pace, wherever they are, splitting the virtual race over a few days or weeks and tracking their progress online with an app or wearable fitness device.

The event is part of the community-wide #WeAreBryant campaign that continues to connect and activate alumni, students, faculty, and staff through social media and philanthropy in support of Bryant students.

During an uncertain time, the Virtual 5K is a wonderful opportunity for all of us to come together with a sense of purpose, in support of each other and in celebration of Bryant.

Individuals and teams can register now, and proceeds from the event will support the newly created Bryant COVID-19 Fund, helping to bridge the financial gap for admitted and current students and families who have been adversely affected by the worldwide pandemic.

Bryant Trustee and running enthusiast Rita Williams-Bogar ’76 is excited about the event and what it can accomplish. “Despite the distance between us, the Bryant community is filled with energy and generosity,” she says. “During an uncertain time, the Virtual 5K is a wonderful opportunity for all of us to come together with a sense of purpose, in support of each other and in celebration of Bryant.”

Registrants will receive an e-bib to print and wear when they run or walk, and everyone who completes the race will receive an official WeAreBryant Virtual 5K medal, mailed to them following the event. Awards will go to the top overall, alumni, student, faculty, and staff finishers, and the largest virtual team. By using a series of social media hashtags, participants can also win special awards throughout the race for #MostBulldogPride, #MostEnthusiastic, #BestCostume, #WithMyPet, and other fun categories.

Abigail Enck ’20, co-chair of the 2020 Bryant Senior Gift Committee, sees the event as a special way to help unite her classmates during their last month at Bryant. “As a graduating senior, WeAreBryant reminds me how proud I am to be part of this amazing community.” She will be running in the 5K, and says, “I hope everyone in the Class of 2020 steps up—literally!—to help leave our legacy for the students who will follow us.”
