Meet Bryant Brown ’22, from Chatham, NJ. A leader on campus, it’s important to him to help others discover their passions. “It’s so important to get out of your comfort zone – in your academics, your career path and in the clubs you join,” he says. “If you have even a tiny urge to try something new, you should definitely do it.”
Inspired by a high school trip to the Google offices, Brown chose to major in Marketing at Bryant University. His coursework, including classes in Marketing Research and Integrated Advertising Communications (two of his favorites), is teaching him how to communicate ideas effectively and persuasively through a variety of channels.
A co-major in Applied Analytics gives him an important competitive advantage. “As someone who aspires to be part of the decision-making process at a high-achieving organization, I believe that my analytics background will help me make better business decisions based on key insights,” he states.
“Bryant University helped me land my job by helping me develop my leadership skills, my ability to collaborate with a team, and my ability to identify and solve problems."
But a college education is about more than the classroom, Brown notes. “My favorite thing about Bryant University is all of the opportunities that exist to find what you’re passionate about,” he says. “All of the clubs, career development opportunities, guest speakers and workshops here show you that your possibilities are endless.”
An academic internship with the Boston Celtics, for instance, was a great way to hone his skills. With Assistant Professor of Marketing Kacy Kim, Ph.D., as his faculty advisor for the internship, he assisted with gathering and analyzing data for use in Pricing Analysis, Fan Renewals, and Seating Upgrades. He also worked to create a dashboard to track tiebreakers for NBA teams. As someone who aims to one day work with data analytics and basketball, “This internship was a perfect step in achieving that goal,” says Bryant.
Some of the highlights of his internship, Bryant says, were attending play-off games and Kevin Garnett’s jersey retirement ceremony.
Beyond the classroom
When he's not practicing his craft, Bryant's gotten involved in a variety of aspects of campus life, from representing his classmates as a Student Senator to serving on the University’s Student Advisory Board for Inclusive Excellence, where he helps to ensure Bryant is a welcoming place for everyone. One of his proudest accomplishments is founding Bryant Club Basketball.
“Bryant University helped me land my job by helping me develop my leadership skills, my ability to collaborate with a team, and my ability to identify and solve problems,”
Through the University’s Marketing Association, Bryant recently travelled to Chicago for the annual American Marketing Association Conference, where he networked with other marketing students from more than 50 different colleges across the country and learned from renowned keynote speakers. Bryant also competed alongside his fellow Marketing Association E-board member Kylie Truong ’23 in the conference’s Marketing Strategy Competition. where they made it to the final round and ended up taking fourth place overall.
One of the reasons he wanted to be President of Bryant’s Marketing Association, Brown says, is that he wanted to assist students in connecting with invaluable resources and mentors like he was able to.. “I feel that it’s important to use my knowledge and experience to give back to the underclassmen and help them with their career journey,” he says.
He’s already off to a great start on his own journey. After graduation, he’ll be joining Verizon as an Account Manager with their Business Development team. “Bryant University helped me land my job by helping me develop my leadership skills, my ability to collaborate with a team, and my ability to identify and solve problems,” says Brown.
