SMITHFIELD, RI – Rick Gorvett, FCAS, Ph.D., Professor and Chair of the Bryant Mathematics Department, has been recognized by the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) with the 2021 Matthew Rodermund Memorial Service Award.

“Receiving this award is both a surprise and an honor,” Gorvett said.  “It’s been a privilege to contribute to the actuarial profession over these many years.”

The award recognizes CAS members who have made significant volunteer contributions to the actuarial profession over the course of their career. The award was established in 1990 in honor of Matt Rodermund's years of volunteer service to the Casualty Actuarial Society.

“Receiving this award is both a surprise and an honor,” Gorvett said.  “It’s been a privilege to contribute to the actuarial profession over these many years.”

Actuarial Math is one of the top programs in Bryant’s College of Arts and Sciences, attracting students from all over the country whose first-year average salaries are among the highest of all Bryant graduates.

“We’ve had some impressive actuarial students, and I fully expect many of our graduates to achieve this type of recognition and more in their chosen professions.”

Gorvett will be recognized with the award at the 2021 CAS Annual Meeting in San Diego, CA, this week. Gorvett said he will not be able to attend as he’ll be at Bryant, teaching an actuarial class, and he added, “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
