Bryant to offer CFP board-registered undergrad program in financial planning

SMITHFIELD, R. I. – Bryant University has registered with Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. (CFP Board) to provide a new financial planning undergraduate degree program, one of very few programs offered at the undergraduate level in New England. Designed to promote academic excellence, leadership skills, qualities of character and the diverse knowledge necessary to succeed in the financial planning industry, Bryant’s Financial Planning program, a specialization within the Financial Services concentration, consists of seven courses plus a required internship.

They will possess the technical knowledge, practical skills, and professionalism that employers value in the growing financial planning industry."

An independent certifying organization, CFP Board owns the CFP ®and Certified Financial Planner TM certification marks, which it awards to individuals who meet its education, examination, experience, ethics and other requirements. Students completing the Financial Planning program at Bryant will have met the education requirement for CFP ®Certification Examination administered by CFP Board. “CFP Board is pleased to approve the program at Bryant University as a CFP Board-Registered Program,” said Richard P. Rojeck, CFP ®, chair of CFP Board’s Board of Directors. 

“As student interest in financial planning as a career continues to grow, we anticipate that Bryant’s program will contribute significantly to the number of qualified candidates seeking to attain the CFP ® certification, the standard of excellence for competent and ethical financial planning,” he said.

In reviewing Bryant’s program, Charles R. Chaffin, Ed.D., CFP Board director of academic programs and initiatives, noted that Bryant’s faculty provide “high quality credentials, academic and extensive professional experience and certifications. This experience should benefit students as course content can be applied and synthesized throughout this program of study.”

Today, CFP Board partners with over 360 programs at more than 225 institutions. CFP Board-Registered Programs are financial planning education programs at the college or university level that meet specific criteria for educating individuals who wish to fulfill the education component for obtaining CFP ® certification.
