Bryant University is pleased to announce a special summer 2022 partnership with Hertford College at Oxford University, founded in 1282 and one of the oldest of Oxford University’s 38 colleges. Located in Oxford, England, 55 miles west of London, the University of Oxford is widely recognized among the world’s leading and most revered universities. As the oldest university in the English-speaking world. Hertford College is an ideal setting for students who want to challenge themselves academically and deepen their knowledge of Britain and British culture while earning three credits and gaining global citizenship skills and cultural enrichment.

The two-week residential Head, Hand and Hertford Programme at Oxford University is offered to qualified Bryant students. Students will study in the unique atmosphere of Oxford and be taught by Oxford professors and two Bryant professors who will lead the trip: Professor of Psychology and IDEA Program Director Allison Butler, Ph.D., and Trustee Professor of Management Michael Roberto, DBA. The sessions will focus on communication, leadership and innovation, with discussion topics to include an introduction to ethics, how to understand power, and how to find purpose. Students will study with Oxford University students and be encouraged to share ideas and gain new perspectives and life skills. Weekends allow for free time to explore London, Cambridge, and the Cotswolds.

Global perspectives are a cornerstone of Bryant’s real-world ready education, and we are pleased to expand our study abroad opportunities through this new partnership with Oxford University,” said President Ross Gittell, Ph.D. “The Hertford Program provides students with a unique opportunity to build cross-cultural experience and broaden their innovation and leadership skills at one of the most highly regarded universities in the world.”

According to Tom Fletcher, principal of Hertford College, “We are excited to welcome Bryant University students to the Head, Hand and Hertford Programme. The program will begin with each student researching and presenting on a cultural, historical, economic, political or social aspect of Oxford’s rich heritage. The experience will allow the teaching team to learn about student interests and allow the students to learn more about each other.” Prior to his appointment as Hertford Principal, Fletcher served as a UK Ambassador, No. 10 Downing Street Foreign Policy Adviser to the Prime Minister, and Visiting Professor at New York University.

Bryant students will attend several virtual and in-person sessions with Professors Butler and Roberto prior to departure from Boston. They will travel as a group to arrive at the London Airport and travel by coach to Oxford on Sunday, June 26, 2022 with return Saturday, July 9. Students will stay in Oxford accommodations with most meals provided.

To be considered, students must submit an online application and supporting materials by Monday, April 18 . This exceptional study abroad opportunity is for rising sophomore, junior and senior students in the Classes of 2023, 2024 and 2025. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, faculty member referral, and 400-500-word essay indicating interest in the Bryant At Hertford College, Oxford Programme and including its academic, professional, and personal importance, are required. The essay must also address personal character, community service engagement, and leadership experience. Student applications should include a Resume/CV.

A selection committee comprised of the Deans, Director of Global Education, and faculty members will review applications and present admission recommendations to the Provost for final approval.
