Whether you’re craving a weekend outing or have a hankering for a Golden Delicious, gather your friends and head over to one of these orchards in Smithfield or neighboring North Scituate and Cumberland:

1. Jaswell’s Farm: Having celebrated its 125th year in August, Jaswell’s Farm is a staple for the Smithfield community. The locally based farm grows 14 apple varieties and has a newly renovated farm market and bakery that sells freshly baked apple cider doughnuts, apple cider, homemade jams, and more. 2. Steere Orchard: As a fourth-generation family orchard, Steere Orchard is one of Rhode Island’s largest apple orchards with everything from Macoun and Cortland to Macintosh and RI Greening. 4. Barden Family Orchard: Located just over Smithfield’s border in North Scituate, Barden Family Orchard takes visitors' apple expertise to a new level via the farm’s website, which features a list of every available apple variety followed by a description of flavor, texture, harvest date, and when the apples should be eaten or used for pies. 5. Knight Farm: If you’re looking for a full-day outing, Knight Farm is the apple-picking site for you. Start the morning with a hearty country breakfast of French toast at the farm’s restaurant before heading out to pick apples (they also serve lunch for non-early birds). 6. Phantom Farms: Bringing friends and family together since 1950, Phantom Farms is home to a bustling apple orchard and cafe. Under new ownership as of 2022, the Macari family has added 1,400 new apple trees and 60 peach trees to the property. Be sure to visit Phantom Farms’ bakery and cafe where the aroma of fresh cinnamon rolls, homemade goods, and seasonal coffee will warmly greet all who enter.
