Former Bryant University Board of Trustee member David C. Weinstein will receive an Honorary Doctor of Business Administration during the undergraduate Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 18.
During a 24-year career at Fidelity Investments, Weinstein served as chief of administration, overseeing the company’s legal, human resources, real estate, accounting, audit, compliance, and security functions. Weinstein was also a member of the Operating Committee, chaired the Ethics Committee, and directed Fidelity’s government relations efforts in Washington, D.C., and various states.
In 1996, Weinstein led the initiative to develop Fidelity’s Smithfield, Rhode Island, regional center. Recognizing the exceptional talent and character of the neighboring Bryant University students, Weinstein helped foster a collaborative partnership between Fidelity and the university. In 2000, he joined the Bryant University Board of Trustees and served for two decades in various roles, including as its vice chair. Weinstein was also instrumental in establishing Bryant University Zhuhai, the only U.S.-China joint four-year undergraduate business degree program in Guangdong Province, China.
After retiring from Fidelity in 2008, Weinstein began a new chapter as an educator and advocate. He founded Write the World, a nonprofit organization that aims to help high school students develop their writing and critical thinking skills to become competent global citizens. Under Weinstein’s vision as CEO, Write the World has grown into a leading online global community for young writers, engaging over 100,000 students and educators from 120 countries.
Weinstein’s commitment to education and advocacy has led him to serve as a trustee of Boston College, Harvard Hillel, John F. Kennedy Presidential Library Foundation, Belmont Hill School, Fessenden School, and Reading is Fundamental. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, one of the oldest honorary societies in the U.S. Weinstein has also contributed his expertise to national and community-based nonprofit boards, including the President’s Advisory Committee on the Arts, the American Heart Association, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, and the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce.
