SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University will welcome former Executive Director of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund Otaviano Canuto, Ph.D., as keynote speaker for the final event in the Spring Honors Program Speaker Series. His talk on the “Economic Development Challenges in a Post-Pandemic Era” will take place virtually on March 31 at 4 p.m. via Zoom. This event is free and open to the Bryant community and to the public.
Otaviano Canuto is a Nonresident Senior Fellow in the Global Economy and Development Program at the Brookings Institution. His experience includes fifteen years as Vice President, Executive Director, and Senior Advisor in Multilateral institutions, including the World Bank, International Monetary Fund (IMF), and Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). Canuto’s long experience includes a period as Deputy Minister for International Affairs in Brazil’s Ministry of Finance and as a Professor of Economics.

The spring 2021 Honors Program Speaker Series, a series of three events, began on Feb. 10 with Briana Trifiro ’17, ’18 MA, a second-year doctoral student in the Division of Emerging Media Studies at Boston University’s College of Communication, presenting on “Social Media & Cultural Impact.” On March 3, Jose Batiste '11, Esq, an attorney specializing in immigration law, spoke to Bryant students about “Racial Injustice & Immigration.”
