A highly acclaimed national security law expert experienced in academic, law, and government service settings, Provost Glenn M. Sulmasy provides a distinguished 24-year record of higher education leadership and academic achievement as Bryant’s first University Provost and Chief Academic Officer.

His visionary, enthusiastic leadership style has transformed the academic programs and climate at Bryant. Sulmasy has introduced and implemented myriad new programs, concentrations, and pedagogical approaches including an online Masters of Business Administration, Data Science degree, a fully accredited (and nationally ranked) Physician Assistant Program, established the Center for Teaching Excellence, and has expanded the School of Health Sciences. Academic rankings for Bryant University have surged during his tenure. The signature interdisciplinary program for the University, International Business, has been ranked in the top 25 in the nation by US News and World Report two years in a row.

Provost Sulmasy is formerly a professor of law at both the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and the U.S. Naval War College.  At the Academy, he led the humanities disciplines from 2010-2015. His primary research interests included international law, the Founders and the Constitution law, and national security.  He has delivered over 100 lectures at universities, think tanks, and academic/legal organizations over his career.  He also served as a National Security and Human Rights Fellow at the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy at Harvard University.

Currently, Provost Sulmasy is a visiting fellow at the National Security Law Institute at George Mason University School of Law. In addition to lecturing extensively on the law of armed conflict, international law, and national security matters, he is widely published on national security matters, and serves as a subject matter expert/commentator. He has been featured in the Los Angeles Times, on CBS News Radio, National Public Radio, CNN International, US News & World Report, the New York Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, Al-Jazeera America, MSNBC, Fox News, and numerous other national media outlets. He is the author of "The National Security Court System – A Natural Evolution of Justice in an Age of Terror" (Oxford University Press) and Co-Editor of "International Law Challenges – Homeland Security and Combating Terrorism" (2005).

Sulmasy was educated at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, University of Baltimore School of Law (cum laude), UC Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall) and the Harvard Kennedy School. He is a proud member of the Harvard Club of New York City and the Bretton Woods Club (New Hampshire).

Provost Sulmasy, his wife, Marla, and seven children hail from Old Lyme, CT, and Smithfield, RI.
