Feb 26, 2026, by Peter Kerwin

Smithfield, RI—Bryant University has been selected by the Ghana Men’s National Team as its official base camp for FIFA World Cup 26™, positioning the university and the state of Rhode Island on the global stage during one of the world’s premier soccer competitions. Ghana will train at Bryant University.

“Bryant University is honored to welcome the Ghana Men’s National Team and to serve as its official training base for FIFA World Cup 26™,” says Bryant President Ross Gittell, Ph.D. “It is a recognition of Bryant’s best-in-class facilities and the global appeal of our campus and university. We look forward to the partnerships, the visibility, and the enthusiasm that this opportunity will bring to Rhode Island, New England, and well beyond.”

Bryant was selected last fall for inclusion in the FIFA World Cup 26™ Base Camp brochure. To celebrate the achievement, Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee, State Treasurer James Diossa, and others came together in October at Bryant’s recently dedicated 43,000-square-foot field house, which features elite training, recovery, and sports medicine spaces designed to support high-performance athletes. State and regional leaders heralded Bryant’s investment in its athletic facilities while thanking the university for working to meet the exacting FIFA World Cup 26™ standards for field quality, security, and professional-level infrastructure.

“Being selected as a Base Camp for Team Ghana underscores the caliber of Bryant’s campus, our commitment to excellence, and the intentional investments we’ve made to support high-performing student-athletes,” says Bill Smith, vice president for athletics and recreation. “It reflects the strength of our integrated approach to academics, athletics, and wellness while creating a moment of pride for our community and a strong connection between Bryant Athletics and the global game.”

The 2026 FIFA World Cup 26™, the largest in tournament history, will take place from June 11 to July 19 across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. This will be Ghana’s fifth appearance in the tournament, having reached the quarterfinals in 2010. This year, Ghana will compete in Group L and will face Panama on June 17 (Toronto), England on June 23 (Boston Stadium), and Croatia on June 27 (Philadelphia).
