For the second year, Bryant University is partnering with Hertford College at Oxford University for a two-week summer residential Head, Hand and Hertford Programme study abroad opportunity for Bryant undergraduates.

Founded in 1282, Hertford College is one of the oldest of Oxford University’s 38 colleges. The University of Oxford, located fifty-five miles west of London, is the oldest university in the English-speaking world and is widely recognized among the most revered universities globally. Hertford College is an ideal setting for students who want to challenge themselves academically and deepen their knowledge of Britain and British culture while gaining global leadership skills and cultural enrichment. Students will earn three-course credits in either Management or Psychology.

Qualified students will study in the unique atmosphere of Oxford and learn from Oxford tutors and two Bryant professors who will lead the trip: Professor of Psychology and IDEA Program Director Allison Butler, Ph.D., and Trustee Professor of Management Michael Roberto, DBA. The highly interactive tutorial sessions will focus on themes of leadership and innovation, ethics, global economics, finance, psychology, art history, Shakespeare, and British history and society.

“This was an incredible experience, and I am honored to say I have studied at Hertford College while attending Bryant University,” says Sophie Turner ’24. “I am so glad I had the opportunity to travel like this and go outside of my comfort zone because I truly believe it has benefited me in so many ways.”

In addition to coursework, students will partake in cultural enrichment experiences such as high tea, art and museum tours, a Shakespearean play at Oxford castle, recreational activities with students from Hertford College, and a formal gala, providing opportunities to further immerse in British culture. Weekend day trips will include visits to London, Bath, and Stratford-upon-Avon, Shakespeare’s birthplace. Students will also have opportunities to connect with Bryant University alumni who are living and working in England.

Last year’s inaugural trip sent 22 Bryant students to Oxford where they learned from some of the university’s finest educators, visited sights of cultural and historical importance, and expanded their global perspective.

“This was an incredible experience, and I am honored to say I have studied at Hertford College while attending Bryant University,” says Sophie Turner ’24. “I am so glad I had the opportunity to travel like this and go outside of my comfort zone because I truly believe it has benefited me in so many ways.”

Prior to leaving for England, students accepted into the Head, Hand, and Hertford Programme will attend several virtual and in-person sessions with Professors Butler and Roberto. They will travel together, departing from Boston on Sunday, July 22nd and returning on Saturday, August 5th. While in Oxford, students will stay in university residence halls with most breakfast and lunches provided. The cost of the program is $4,100-$4,300 plus airfare, estimated between $1,275-$1,475.

All interested students must submit an online application, found in the ‘Student Services and Financial Aid’ section of Banner, and supporting materials by Friday, April 28. This exceptional study abroad opportunity is for students in the classes of 2024, 2025, and 2026. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a 400-500-word essay demonstrating interest in the Head, Hand, and Hertford Programme are required. Student essays should address the academic, professional, and personal importance of the opportunity, as well as touch on personal character, community service engagement, and leadership experiences. All student applications must also include a resume.

Interested students can attend an informational Zoom session on Sunday, April 23rd, at 7:00 pm or Monday, April 24th, at 5:30 pm
