Last week, Bryant University welcomed the Class of 2027 to campus, a diverse cohort with more first generation, Pell Grant, and students of color — a reflection of the university’s Vision 2030 commitments to economic mobility, community, and belonging for all. Of the incoming class, 23 percent are the first in their family to attend college, while 22 percent of first-years identify as African American, Latino American, or Asian American.
Selected from more than 9,500 applicants, the 953 incoming first-years are accomplished individuals who are already leaving their mark on the world. A class of many talents, the new group of students include a Softball Little League World Series athlete, a fashion designer, classic car restorer, a Rubik’s Cube competitor, and an entrepreneur who works at a technology start-up and developed software that encrypts passwords.
“As students begin this exciting chapter in their lives, a Bryant education will equip them with critical 21st century skills to help them become the changemakers of tomorrow,” says President Ross Gittell, Ph.D. “As we embark on our ambitious Vision 2030 strategic plan, the Class of 2027 will be among the first to experience Bryant's bold new future, with enhancements to educational opportunities and student life experiences. We all look forward to witnessing and celebrating the accomplishments that lie ahead for this outstanding class.”
A community with global reach
The new class will add its mark to the university’s 160-year-old history by forging relationships with peers, faculty, and staff and growing their skills and expertise over the next four years. Hailing from 29 states and 21 countries, the Class of 2027 collectively speaks 38 languages and dialects.
“Each member of this class brings distinct talents and diverse perspectives to the university,” says Michelle Cloutier, vice president for enrollment management. “Their compassion for others, drive to excel, and enthusiasm to become thoughtful leaders will enrich our campus as they develop into the skillful professionals — and people — the world is waiting for.”

With more than a century of providing students with a meaningful education and experience, Bryant has served generations of families. This year, 15 percent of students from the Class of 2027 have at least one family member who’s attended the university.
Compelled to thrive
First-years are already exemplifying the university’s goal for students to discover their passion and become innovative leaders. With strong academic roots, the Class of 2027’s average high school class rank landed in the top 25 percent while they also achieved an average GPA of 3.59 and 1250 SAT score. Sixty percent of students took Advanced Placement classes in high school and 25 percent of first-years qualified for the university’s Honors Program.

Finance, in the College of Business; Actuarial Math and Communication in the College of Arts and Sciences; and Psychology, in the School of Health and Behavioral Sciences top this year’s areas of academic interest as expressed in the Class of 2027’s applications. With faculty and staff support, access to advanced facilities, and a wide breadth of resources available at students’ fingertips, the Class of 2027 will be set up for success during, and after, their academic careers.
Excellence in extracurriculars
When they weren’t in the classroom, the Class of 2027 excelled on the field. Forty-four percent of first-years participated in one or more high school sports. Of those 426 student-athletes, 212 will join Bryant in black and gold as they compete on one of the university’s 25 NCAA Division 1 varsity athletic teams. Still, even more students will join Bryant’s club sports, intramurals, and student-run organizations where they can continue growing as leaders while making connections across campus.

More than 63 percent of the class took time to volunteer with one student creating a non-profit supporting Syrian refugee mothers and children and another who cared for turtle hatchlings to help revive the population. These students will bring their talents to campus organizations including Bryant Habitat for Humanity, Bryant Best Buddies, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Special Olympics Rhode Island. Overall, their Bryant education and experience will assist them in finding unique ways to aid others and create a positive impact as compassionate, modern leaders.
