This week, Bryant began the spring semester and welcomed nearly 40 new freshmen and transfer students into the University community. After a first week of remote classes, in-person classes start on Tuesday, Feb. 9.
Due to the strong spirit and commitment of our community, Bryant was one of the few schools in the nation to complete fall classes at near full residency on campus. During the weeks between when students departed from campus in late November until their return for move-in starting this Friday, the University has been working hard to refine our approach to academic programs and fortify public health and safety measures. Bryant’s leadership team has listened carefully to those who offered suggestions, and we have been closely monitoring the pandemic.
We have many things planned for a productive and rewarding student experience this semester.
To name just a few of the programs we can all look forward to:
February is Black History Month, and there are multiple opportunities to engage in discussion and programs that enhance our collective understanding and appreciation of diversity, equity and inclusion. Please save Feb. 25 at 7pm for the MLK Legacy speaker, to be announced soon. The Bulldogs Lead program will host a conversation following the MLK keynote at Noon on Friday, Feb. 26. Also on Feb. 26 are Bridging the GAP, Bryant’s annual Alumni of Color Panel for sharing advice and knowledge of navigating professional experiences, and an Extravaganza Watch Party for the Multicultural Student Union's Annual Black History Month fashion show.
We are excited to be providing new outdoor opportunities for physical and social activity, with appropriate distancing and masking. As students return to campus, they will see the installation of an 80 x 40’ ice rink on the green between the Unistructure and Chace Center. Skates will be available to check out.
It is understandable that many are eager to learn how Bryant will celebrate the accomplishments of our graduating Class of 2021 at Commencement. Bryant is currently exploring multiple scenarios, including both in-person and virtual options, to recognize the Classes of 2020 and 2021. We hope to be able to announce plans for those important milestone ceremonies in early March.
Women’s leadership development is an essential element of Bryant programming, and working with an accomplished group of alumnae and trustees we are reimagining the Women’s Summit as a virtual event to be held June 16.
The Bryant community has remained strong during these challenging times, and our enduring commitment to our students’ success and to each other will help us continue to operate productively. We wish everyone a healthy and rewarding spring semester.
